Modeling Reality with Virtual Worlds

Virtual words can be used in many different ways giving users various experiences. Especially today, with the rise of virtual reality in technology, many people find it appealing because it brings you an environment that is completely different from what you're used to. For example, in The Office clip of second life with Jim and Dwight, Dwight explains how he uses it. In his world, he is the regional manager of Dunder Mifflin and he can also fly. Essentially, the way Dwight was living his life within the virtual world in the game was the ideal life that he was seeking. Additionally, in the CNN article of going to a virtual office in Second Life, they explain how it allows employees to basically go to virtual meetings for work. Once again, this is a benefit because it makes life more easier and also work efficient. Instead of having the need to either visit other offices for meetings or even have to leave your home for work, virtual worlds allow us to cut down certain unnecessary a

Blog about Twitter

I think a Twitter discussion is quite similar to a BlackBoard discussion and in-class discussions. The reason being, Tweets and the replies are obviously occurring in real time. You simply post whatever is on your mind and people find it and reply to you. The BlackBoard discussion board is basically a timeline like what Twitter has and you can also simply click and reply to any discussion board post. In-class discussions are basically a real life twitter discussion as people are constantly replying back and forth to each other to certain tweets. Anyone can chime in their opinion and it is always seen or heard. The only difference that is significant between these three discussions is the fact that Twitter limits your replies to a certain amount of characters.

Social Networking Sites

There are various types of social media sites, the prominent ones being sites such as Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram. Facebook and Twitter from my personal usage are similar in a sense that you're sharing information to the public or your friends. Both websites have a similar function of being able to post anything. Facebook has a status post while Twitter has a "tweet". These postings allow you to share practically any form of media, whether it is a link, a photo, text, etc. There are also ads administered through Facebook and Twitter that appear within your timeline. The timeline is generally all the posts from people you follow or friended. It is generally in chronological order as well. I generally don't use Facebook much as their messenger platform was separated from the actual Facebook application, thus messaging people is on a completely different application. Furthermore, with the increased ads on Facebook, I tend to stray away from using Facebook much. Addi

Blog Social Networking

Social Media is used in various ways in todays society. With the significance of technology today, social media in my opinion has become one of the most powerful use of technology. Social media has transcended forms of communication, decreasing the divide between two parties to a minimum. A person across the world can be contacted instantly. It facilitates relationships, advertisements, communication, collaboration, and the list goes on. For example, the article "Benefits of Cloud Computing Services - and the Risks", by Ron Condon shows how something like cloud computing catalyzes collaboration. Researchers were able to crunch data that would've taken 3 months without the platform. Furthermore, it allows other researchers to share their digital assets as well. However, we have become so consumed in social media that it practically dictates our lives now. People are constantly worried about perceptions of themselves on social media and information can be spread drastica
